Associate Director, Wind Ensemble, Marching Brass
For the past year, Mr. Iram Reyes taught in the Pflugerville school district for several schools including Westview Middle School, Dessau Middle School, and Connally High School. During his time with the district, Mr. Reyes taught private lessons, offered master classes, and aided the Connally H.S. Marching Band as they competed in the 2016 marching season. Prior to his experience at Pflugerville I.S.D., Mr. Reyes served for four years as an Assistant Band Director at San Benito High School and three years as the Director of Bands at the Veterans Memorial 9th Grade Academy in San Benito, TX. For three consecutive years, he was able to assist students in achieving superior ratings in concert band at the University Interscholastic League (U.I.L.) Contest; and in 2012, he was instrumental in helping San Benito High School earn their first appearance at the 6A U.I.L. State Marching Contest. In addition, Mr. Reyes held a trumpet studio in which several students were able to place in the Texas Music Educators Association (T.M.E.A.) All-State Band and Orchestra as well as compete at the National Trumpet Competition (N.T.C.) in Mechanicsburg, PA. Mr. Reyes also conducted the San Benito H.S. Jazz Ensemble where he was able to compose original music and have students compete and receive awards for superior performances at several events throughout the state.
Mr. Reyes received his Bachelors of Music in Music Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied Trumpet Performance under the direction of Ray Sasaki, and Music Education under the supervision of Dr. Robert Duke. He later attended Texas State San Marcos where he began his graduate studies in Trumpet Performance with Dr. Keith Winking. During his time at Texas State, Mr. Reyes was able to assist in directing the Jazz Orchestra, where he rehearsed, conducted, and composed for the ensemble. In 2011, the Texas State Jazz Orchestra premiered original works by Mr. Reyes while on a tour in Santiago, Chile.
Mr. Reyes enjoys playing his trumpet and performs and leads various musical groups ranging in several styles such as Jazz, Rock, Funk, and Salsa.
