Marching Band: Outdoor Marching Ensemble

This performance ensemble provides a “society” and “family” to which all band students can belong. It is a place where they learn values and standards, where they can learn to depend on one another in their pursuit of excellence. They learn about responsibility, doing their fair share, and sticking to a common goal. They learn to value people, respect their peers and not make judgments on the superficial. They frequently acquire a stronger base for their adult life than any other avenue open to them.

The Marching Band performs the half time program at all home football games and select away games.  Band Camp begins the week before school starts and is required for all Connally Band students. During Band Camp, students work full time on the musical compositions for the fall program. After school starts, band practice is Weds and Friday nights and most of the day on Saturday. Attendance is mandatory and enforced.

The Color Guard, or “Auxiliary”, combine dance, drama, and performance – with the manipulation of flags, sabers, and rifles – into a magical pageantry. Color Guard is now one of the most popular activities for students in the high school curriculum. This outstanding performing group is an intricate part of the fall season. In the winter and spring seasons, students perform in a number of dance recitals plus official Winter Guard appearances. The Winter Guard often travels to venues across the state and region in pageantry theater competitions incorporating a wide range of visual performance arts and choreography. Attendance is mandatory and enforced

The Connally High School Marching Band has had an active music program since it opened in the fall of 1996. The Marching band has earned numerous awards since it first started performing. Led by Chico Portillo, CHS Director Emeritus, the highest UIL placement was 2nd in Texas for the show "Londenigma" in 2007.  The marching band was also a Bands of America Grand National Semi-Finalist in 2006. See the list below for other performances by the Marching Band.

The Connally High School Marching Band is an 8 time area finalist, 4 time state finalist, and holders of 19 sweepstakes awards.
